Tessellation

For maths we made tessellation. A tessellation is a pattern made of shapes with no gaps or overlaps. A good example for this is a chess board with the white and black squares. examples of tessellations in the real world are brick wall and tile flooring. Shapes that cannot be used for tessellations are circles because a circle has no straight lines so nothing lines up and you will be left with big gaps between shapes.

Sound

For science we’ve been learning about sound. First I learnt how sound travels. Sound travels in tiny particles in the air you can’t see the particle because it’s that small. A good way to see the sound involves a tuning fork and a bowl of water. You hit the tuning fork on the table and put it into the water then you should be able to see the water splash up around it.

After that I learnt about the parts of the ear. There are three main parts the outer ear, the middle ear, and the inner ear. The outer ear is the part of skin you see on everyone’s ear this is called the pina. The pina is a bit like a funnel it funnels the sound into your ear and that’s why it’s shaped that way. Next is the middle ear this is more like a tube that leads to the ear drum the ear drum is called the ear drum because it looks like a drum.  The inner is way more complex than the middle ear because this is where the sound goes to your brain. After the sound hits the ear drum  it moves the three bones the hammer, anvil and the stirrup the stirrup then leads to the cochlea the sound travels though the cochlea to the nerve that leads to the brain.

For the last lesson we learnt how sound is made we learnt that sound is caused by vibrations that why if you play a guitar you see the strings vibrate the same works with a piano a hammer like things come down once you press a key and hits a string causing it to vibrate. The pitch on a string gets higher because of tension a higher tension equals having a higher pitched sound and a lower tension equals having a lower pitched sound. This rule also applies for the length of a string the shorter the string the higher the pitch the longer the string the low the sound.

King Charles III Stadium

For inquiry this term we’ve been learning about New Brighton in the past. Me Benji and Sonny choose to learn about QEII stadium and the 1974 Commonwealth games held at QEII stadium. We decide to build the stadium in Minecraf. We where planing to name it QEII stadium but the queen passed away so we had to change the name to King Charles III stadium.

Stone Art

This week for Monday Mashup I did stone art. First we had to find stones and sticks. Then we had to glue them to a piece of paper using hot glue guns. We had to use pencils to draw the small details like arms and legs but we couldn’t use to much detail because it’s suppose to look simple. My stone art is called an uncontrolled snow boarder because he’s about to fly off a cliff.

Te Ari Ora Fire Dancing

Last Monday we learned how to do tricks with staffs used for fire dancing. We got tough these tricks by two people called Josh and Chris who the break before did the same tricks but with fire on the end of the staffs. We learnt tricks like how to spin it around the top of your hand how to spin the staff on your neck and how to throw the staff in the air and catch it. Next Monday Te Ari Ora is doing a show at school where we get to spin our own fire.

Kissing Kate Barlow

For literacy we’ve been reading the book Holes. In the book there is an outlaw about kissing Kate Barlow who before she died put her loot in the dried up lake called Camp Green Lake. And that’s where Stanley goes after getting accused of stealing a pair of running shoes. Kissing Kate Barlow is also the person who left Stanley’s great grandfather in the middle of the dessert. We had to make a wanted picture for Kissing Kate Barlow.

Term 2-3 Inquiry

After we went on all of our trips to local places to learn about local stories I chose to do my inquiry on QEll stadium because it held the 1974 CommonWealth Games the only CommonWealth Games held in Christchurch doing this was hard because the stadium was taken down  after it got destroyed in the 2010 christchurch earthquakes so we only had video and photos to go off of.

I got in a group with Sonny who helped and Benji who learnt to use world edit and accidentally deleted the entire track and replaced it with ancient debris. We made a new version of QEll stadium for the 2026 CommonWealth Games in Minecraft. We made an olympic sized swimming pool and a running track with a field in the middle. We added a changing room and a VIP area.

I like what we made but I don’t like how the other main stand has no roof so the stadium looks weird but with saying that it makes the stadium look like Barcelona fc camp nou. I like how we took inspiration from the old QEll stadium with the cyan blue stands.

Favourite Sports In Whaea Emma’s Maths Group

For maths we’ve been learning about statistics. Today we got to make our first pie graph and we used the data we got a week ago about everybody’s favourite sport. I chose to have a shadow around my graph because the 3d pie chart made it so it’s the only thing you look at and the original 2d one was really boring. The green is rugby, the purple is soccer, the yellow is the other, the red is softball, the blue is netball and the brownish colour is hockey. I found out soccer is the most popular sport in whaea Emma’s maths group.

Yellow Spotted Lizards

For literacy we’ve been reading the book holes and for a creation we had to make a slideshow about an animal we picked in Holes. I picked the yellow spotted lizards that they’re always talking about. It turns out yellow spotted lizards aren’t real and the closest thing to them is yellow spotted night lizards.
