Fishing quota

In New Zealand we have fishing rules to help prevent over fishing. In New Zealand 76 percent of native fresh water fish have the threat of extinction. The most popular fish to catch in New Zealand is snapper, Snapper/tamure is one of the most common fish to see in New Zealand.

In 2015 in New Zealand 17 percent of the fish caught were thought of as being over-fished. The most valuable fish to catch in New Zealand is whitebait. In New Zealand there is no weight limit for the amount of whitebait you can catch which leads white bait to being very over-fished.

Another thing seawater animal people like to eat is Kina it is a close relative to sea stars and is easily recognised as a type of marine animal. They also eat entire coral reefs.  Quota means taking so much of something until there is nothing left this happens a lot with fishing and over fishing.

Inquiry – Kaitiakitanga

This week for inquiry I had to look at how we could improve the jr playground. We took photos of the trees, bushes and stones that had been thrown out of the swale. Then we put it into a slideshow and wrote everything wrong with it. We also learnt the meanings of words like future proof and kaitiakitanga.

MEANINGS. Kaitiakitanga: means guardianship and protection or looking after an environment. Sustainability: the ability to maintain for the future generations. Quota: the removal of a place’s natural resources until it is all gone. Replenish. Guardian: A person who protects a place or a thing. Future proof: Future proof has almost the same meaning as sustainability. Future proof means preparing for the future.
